YMCA OF SIMCOE/MUSKOKA

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is pleased to announce that more than 1,770 people across Simcoe/Muskoka and Parry Sound took part in the fifth annual YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka "Move to Give" fundraising event. With the help of YMCA child care centres and school age programs across Simcoe/Muskoka, the event raised over $200,000, exceeding its goal of $100,000.

Each year Move to Give sets out to raise the necessary funds to support the growing needs of the communities served across Simcoe/Muskoka and Parry Sound.

On April 6, the event took place simultaneously in eight YMCAs within our region: Barrie, Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Gravenhurst, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia and Parry Sound and at 76 YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka child care centres and school age programs on March 6.

From running 5km to massive indoor cycling sessions, swimming challenges, fire truck pulls and more— participants challenged themselves physically while at the same time, gave back to their community.

"On behalf of everyone who benefits from a strong and vibrant YMCA, we would like to thank our community, sponsors, donors, volunteers, and staff for making this year's Move to Give a huge success," said Brian Shelley, Vice President, Philanthropy, Brand and Community Development, YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka. "Witnessing how our community came together to support us on April 6 was truly inspiring, and we are humbled by the generosity and support we received."

Over the past five years Move to Give has raised over $500,000 and brought together thousands of people across Simcoe/Muskoka – all working towards achieving the same goal – building healthier communities. Move to Give not only raises funds to provide members in need with over one million dollars in financial assistance each year, it also raises awareness about the YMCA's programs, services and impact on the community, while inspiring healthy, active living.

"The success of Move to Give has a huge impact on the communities we serve. From developing health initiatives that target diseases such as cancer and heart disease, to improving childhood obesity, literacy, social isolation, youth outreach and more – the money raised through Move to Give directly translates into more resources in our community," said Shelley.
